Hello and welcome! I am Chanlie, the builder, dreamer, and creator behind Rags & Wood Co
I live with my husband and our two beautiful girls in the rural Nevada desert filled with sagebrush, hay farms, and cattle ranches. I am proudly first a wife and mama! Thanks to my better half, I am extremely fortunate to spend my days raising our daughters, working in the wood shop, sewing wild rags, or braiding halters. Most weekends you will find us out helping at our small family cattle ranch enjoying the old-fashioned way of life teaching our girls the importance of hard work, faith, and love of family.
Blessed to be brought up in the western lifestyle, I am an old soul who loves all things worn, weathered, and rustic; the objects that tell a visual story of the beautiful life they have lived. My passion is taking something old and forgotten and giving it a new life creating a one-of-a-kind piece of tattered perfection.
I got my start in the wood shop from a very early age. My dad is an incredibly talented woodworker who built homes most of my childhood. As a young adult he was in an accident where he lost the majority of his left arm. Rather than letting this stop him from the work he knew and loved, he persevered, proving he could do anything he put his mind to. Leading by example, he instilled a drive in my siblings and I that anything can be achieved through hard work and consistency. Everything I know in this craft I learned from the absolute best!
My love of old, rustic, and weathered is my mom’s influence, creating pieces that are perfectly imperfect. Rustic perfection! My mom is my best friend, right hand, and business partner. She spends a lot of her days sewing wild rags, sanding and finishing my wood creations, along with helping with my girls. In short, she does most of the grunt work. She never complains. It is a massive understatement to say I would be lost without her.
Last, but not least, I wanted Rags & Wood Co to stand for my two biggest blessings in life, my beautiful girls Rinley and Wakley. In a fortunate stroke of serendipity, their initials match with my two passions, rags and wood. Thank you for being here and supporting this dream of mine. You are so incredibly appreciated!
